The Kenosha Police Department is ending its contract with Flock Safety, citing undisclosed camera capabilities and concerns about data sharing and security. Police Chief Patrick Patton stated that the “horror stories” heard about Flock’s misuse eroded trust, leading the city to switch to Axon’s competing Outpost camera system. Kenosha has signed a $14.6 million, 10-year contract with Axon for a suite of police technology, including 31 Outpost cameras. A key advantage of Axon, according to Patton, is greater control over data access, with plans to share data only with Wisconsin agencies and potentially Lake County, Illinois, unlike Flock’s nationwide search capabilities. This move is anticipated by Patton to be followed by other Wisconsin police departments.
