Flock Safety, a company previously claiming its technology cannot identify individuals, has developed an AI-powered system capable of identifying drivers and tracking vehicles based on movement patterns. This “OS Investigate” software, accessible through Flock’s network of over 6,000 community cameras, allows police to search for individuals based on their driving habits, associations, and location history, potentially turning simple vehicle sightings into broad investigations. The system integrates with police case files, 911 logs, and commercial identity databases, enabling the creation of detailed profiles including names, addresses, and relatives. Despite Flock’s assurances that the tool is in early development, privacy advocates warn it enables warrantless fishing expeditions and poses significant civil liberties risks by expanding surveillance beyond its initial stated purpose.
