Lake County, Florida, is launching a school bus camera program on October 10th to penalize drivers who illegally pass stopped school buses. The district will equip 240 buses with stop-arm cameras, managed by American Traffic Solutions (ATS). Law enforcement reviews footage before issuing citations, which start at $225 after an initial warning period. This initiative aims to improve student safety, following similar programs in other Florida counties like Brevard. Revenue generated will be shared between ATS and the school district. Last year, a single-day count revealed 215 instances of drivers passing stopped buses.
