5 APD officers fired over misuse of license plate reader technology, department says

Five former Albany Police Department officers have been arrested and charged with misuse of license plate reader (LPR) data and violation of oath of office. An internal audit revealed the officers used Flock camera system data for non-law enforcement purposes. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is handling the criminal investigation. These officers were terminated by the department due to these actions, with some facing additional charges for unrelated policy violations. LPR technology is intended for legitimate public safety operations, such as criminal investigations.
