Motorists in New York are facing significant E-ZPass overcharges, leading to a class-action lawsuit filed by RJL Industries, a trucking company. RJL claims its fleet was overcharged nearly $100,000 last year, resulting in additional fines for insufficient funds due to depleted accounts. The lawsuit alleges E-ZPass vendors have systematically inflated toll amounts without proper notice or dispute mechanisms, costing drivers tens of millions of dollars. In response, lawmakers have introduced the Toll Payer Protection Act, aiming to reform the billing process with a multi-notice system, clearer charge details, and a mandatory 30-day dispute resolution. However, these legislative efforts are currently stalled.
