Florida legislators “school” zone fraud continues.

Drivers in Palm Bay, Florida, are demanding refunds after a faulty speed camera program issued nearly 16,000 tickets and collected over $700,000 in fines. An investigation by Fox35 Orlando revealed the cameras were installed too close to the road, a potential violation of state law, leading to inaccurate readings. The city of Palm Bay profited $347,535 from the now-canceled program. While over 8,000 tickets have been voided, more than 7,800 drivers had already paid the $100 fine. Residents are angered by the city’s failure to ensure the system’s integrity, with many arguing for the money to be refunded or reinvested in placing police officers in school zones. The mayor has since shut down the program, acknowledging the need for reliability in initiatives designed to protect children.
