Scamera Accountability

One the many problems with scameras is no accountability on the part of vendors to be accurate.

For all the claims about “law enforcement”, safety, etc, it really is only about money. And the vendors DO. NOT CARE if they are accurate, fair, even obeying the law (it took them two years to refund tickets issued illegally in one town with a school zone yellow light off, only doing it after it made the tv news).

There needs to be civil and criminal liability on vendors if the vendors break the law!

Many of the laws allowing scameras were written by the lobbyist of vendors!

I remember reading one in Florida on school bus scameras and the law required a camera warning sign a certain size. BUT THE BILL EXEMPT the camera vendor from having to refund the tickets if the vendor broke the law!

So if a owner car makes one tiny mistake like touching a stop line but stopping cough up money. BUT VENDOR breaks the law like one in Atlanta with a illegal placed school zone scamera outside of distance requirements, the vendor can just ignore the law!

Talk about hypocrisy!

Examples in the past of photo enforcement I have seen in the news over the years.

  1. Short yellows
  2. Moving trigger lines past stop bar,
  3. Not posting school zone times
  4. Ignoring per ticket fee prohibition (Maryland years ago)
  5. Running school zones with yellow light off.
  6. School bus no yellow warning before stopping, only red.
  7. Citing school bus no red light.
  8. Citing 55 mph limit in 65 zone (Ohio, a 55 and 65 sign next to each other)
