MTA Continues Crackdown on Toll Evaders, as Bogus Plates Result in Roughly 2,000 Summonses So Far This Year

Since the MTA transitioned to a cashless tolling system in 2017, agency officers have issued over 38,000 summonses to motorists with fake, covered or obstructed license plates, impounding over 6,700 vehicles from drivers who have had their registrations suspended for repeatedly refusing to pay their tolls despite prior summonses, according to the agency.
