Resident comments show opposition to Dayton license plate readers

You shouldn’t support the use of license plate readers because they remove the privacy of citizens. Unbeknownst to many people, the government is starting to use these devices to track the movements of citizens. If a person is a person of interest, the police can easily find out where they are going and when they are doing it. This is a serious violation of privacy, especially when compared to the not so serious reasons for which the police can use them. Even if a person is a serious criminal, it is no excuse for the government to gather information about them without them knowing about it. The government should shut down this system in order to help keep people safe.

Police propose activating plate readers in every patrol cruiser, and they want to obtain and install fixed-site cameras in local neighborhoods that want them.
